Digital learning has opened doors and removed walls. Learning is no longer confined to the classroom. It can now happen anywhere, anytime. Just as important, digital resources make learning interactive, engaging, personalized, and motivating for kids. These resources provide access to a world of information, along with tremendous flexibility, and are often more cost-effective than traditional classroom materials.
School Zone has compiled a digital toolkit that combines apps, printable resources, interactive games—our own and others’—and tips for using them effectively. Even some AI resources. These recommendations are the byproduct of our longstanding expertise in this sector, as well as nearly 50 years of trusted experience in early childhood education.
The toolkit covers reading, math, STEM, and social-emotional learning (SEL), virtually all aspects of learning. You’ll find resources from both established and emerging media and companies. Great digital learning? Game on!
Anywhere Learning with Anywhere Teacher

School Zone’s own Anywhere Teacher app for ages 2 to 8 is an important part of a digital toolkit. It extends learning and bridges gaps both inside and beyond the classroom. Developed by educators, the 3000+ activities, which include songs, games, flash cards, storybooks, worksheets, and more, joyfully blur the line between fun and learning. The worksheets include those that are interactive, with music and audio instructions, text, and feedback, and others that are writable/printable—worksheets to do online or print out. Aligned to national education standards, Anywhere Teacher helps build a solid foundation for success!
This app:
• Helps kids build reading and math skills in a fun way, anywhere, anytime
• Supports school curriculum, provides quality screen time, offers self-paced learning, and encourages positive behavior
• Develops comprehension, critical thinking, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills
• Delivers award-winning content designed and tested in collaboration with teachers
• Provides free-play and guided learning path options
• Includes hundreds of worksheets, both interactive and writable/printable (to do online or print out)

Its multi-user capability is another big benefit. At home, one Anywhere Teacher subscription allows siblings to be on multiple devices, progressing at their own pace, at the same time. At school, one classroom account accommodates up to 25 students with customized profiles that teachers can curate to each child’s needs. Teachers can then review student progress with detailed learning reports.

Printable Resources & Activity Packs

Pairing digital with print resources produces a really big win. One way to do that is to put together learning kits or activity packs—collections of games, crafts, and educational materials designed to keep kids entertained and engaged during travel, meals, or quiet time. They can include items like stickers, coloring books, puzzles, crayons, and small craft kits.
Worksheets can be another important part of activity packs, but they also make terrific stand-alone activities. They reinforce learning by providing focused practice and structured, screen-free, hands-on learning and also develop fine motor skills in ways not possible online. Worksheets offer parents and teachers quick assessment opportunities, and they help students master skills as they build confidence and independence. You can find free or low-cost worksheets at a number of sites online to help keep learning interesting at home or in the classroom.

Here are a few free and paid worksheet resources:
• Anywhere Teacher, School Zone’s online learning program, among its 3000+ activities, as noted earlier, offers hundreds of worksheets, both interactive and writable/printable (to do online or print out) for preschool through third grade. Kids practice a wide range of reading, math, and critical thinking skills.
• Education.com offers 38,000+ teacher-created worksheets to print out or do online, making them accessible for everyone. Choose worksheets by subject, grade, or use the “build a worksheet” feature to make your own. The site also has lesson plans, games, and other activities. Join for free!
• Twinkl lets users with a free account explore worksheets and other activities by age and subject. Under “specialism” are concentrations for special education and English language learners as well as homeschool, Spanish, and Christian education resources.
• Super Teacher Worksheets offers pre-K through 6 worksheets for teachers and homeschool families. Hundreds are available for free (type “free” in the search box) or $24.95/year grants unlimited access to all the printables, which according to the site, include “math worksheets, reading comprehension stories, spelling lists, handwriting practice sheets, grammar worksheets, holiday printables, and much more!”
• K5 Learning offers free worksheets (prominently labeled on their home page) in reading, math, and more for kindergarten to grade 5. However, they too, offer a $23.95 membership that expands what’s available.
• Math-Aids.com “provides free math worksheets for teachers, parents, students, and home schoolers.” The site also says, “the math worksheets are randomly and dynamically generated by our math worksheet generators. This allows you to make an unlimited number of printable math worksheets to your specifications instantly.”
Online learning tools for kids take many forms. Worksheets are an easy, effective, time-tested way to practice and master skills.
Online Learning Games

While game-based applications are not traditional learning tools, they can positively impact how children absorb information and be really beneficial to skill development. Below are a few benefits of these interactive learning tools.
Apps and online games:
• Make learning fun. “Gamification” or the idea of applying elements of gameplay like point scoring, rules, and competition with activities (like learning) can boost motivation and enthusiasm.
• Can help increase reading comprehension. When game-based apps include written directions and activities, they help children improve their reading skills in a way that is not demanding or boring. Learning games stimulate their minds and promote better reading comprehension by captivating their attention. By repeating the games, kids continue to sharpen their reading skills.
• Require kids to make decisions and solve complex problems. Even the most basic games demand some thought and rationality. When playing games and using learning applications, kids are tasked with thinking critically and weighing their options before acting.
Websites such as Education.com have a catalogue of games to play for all subjects, while National Geographic Kids has a big collection of STEM games and puzzles available. Also, check out the New York Times list “Some of the Best Online Learning Games for Kids” for recommendations.
If selected with thought and care, online games are educational but don’t feel like “more school” for kids. They are a great screen time option.
Making teaching easier with AI

Being a teacher is a time-consuming process, with a heavy workload that includes constant grading, lesson planning, and administrative tasks. The job often means spending long hours after school and on weekends.
Relatively new players in online education are AI-driven platforms designed to reduce teacher workload and offer, either directly or indirectly, exciting resources and opportunities to students. One is TeachShare, which bills itself as a “classroom resource creation” tool. Right up front, you can enter a description of what you want or need, like a topic-based game or review activity, then pick a grade, an instructional purpose (i.e., independent or collaborative group work), and a bit more info, then voila! In a couple minutes, it will generate a resource, and while you wait, it will also present some fun “Did you know?” facts about your chosen topic.
Another AI-powered platform is MagicSchool® AI; founded in 2023, it provides time-saving generative AI tools for educators, and according to its homepage, supports “all students with inclusive materials and accessible experiences.” It integrates with Google Docs, Classroom, Canva, and more. With “free,” “plus,” and “enterprise” versions, MagicSchool offers a suite of AI-driven tools to help with lesson planning, instruction, assignment and rubric creation, and student engagement. It can even help write IEPs. For teachers, it reduces burnout, streamlines tasks, and helps tailor teaching to every learner. For parents, it means kids can benefit from personalized, responsive learning.
Before using these AI-powered platforms, be sure to check with your school or district for compliance with any AI use policies. See Magic School’s blog post on their commitment to responsible AI in schools for more information.
